If you are looking for Outlook Express substitute on Windows 7, Windows 10 or Windows 11, you essentially have no good choice as of JanuWindows Live Mail has been discontinued and is no longer developed nor available for download and Outlook Express and Windows Mail do not exist on Windows 11 or Windows 10 either. Additionally, Windows Live Mail was designed not to be an email client for itself but rather a sort of "advertisement" for Microsoft paid services. There were options to make Windows Live Mail more comfortable to use but that wasn't it. So in fact, if you had multiple accounts, you'd have multiple Inboxes as well. Unfortunately, Windows Live Mail was quite different from Outlook Express and wasn't really a substitute - instead it introduced different and more complicated user interface, removed some of the additional features which Windows Mail had and introduced another thing many people dislike - email grouping by accounts, rather than having everything in a single Inbox, Outbox etc.

Except Windows Live Mail, Windows Live Essentials also contains a couple of other programs like Messenger, Movie Maker but most people were interested of course in Windows Live Mail. To complete their switch from Windows Vista, Microsoft replaced Windows Mail with downloadable program package called Windows Live Essentials which also had a program called Windows Live Mail inside the package. In any case I can't immediately see how I can use it to be able to access all my OE details and filed emails.
Signing up and checking it however, it SEEMS that I might have to have Hotmail - I have no Hotmail, Googlemail or any other such email account. I understand I have access now to Windows Live, and I saw something about it being able to be used in conjunction with OE. I'm pretty much a novice, though I've had Dells for many years this time I haven't been put off trying to work things out for myself, but I keep running up against brick walls. When I go into Works Task Launcher and click on OE then Start OE, the message says basically "can't find msimn.exe" I click OK, it says it can't access the programme. It didn't seem like the hardest task in the world then to open Outlook Express on the XPS15 and start to be able to use the email facility and access all my emails and files. I've found the old CD and installed Works in the new one, and - yes - I can now work with my docs and spreadsheets. The old incredibly slow Inspiron 1300 has only Works with Outlook Express, so all my docs, spreadsheets, email are in these formats. This is but the latest seemingly unsolvable hassle I've encountered since buying an XPS15 two weeks ago.
